GATE 2027 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national-level exam that tests your understanding of core undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology and science. IIT Madras is the organising institute for GATE 2027. A good score is used for admission to M.Tech, Ph.D and other postgraduate programs at IITs, NITs and other top institutes, and many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also use GATE 2027 scores for recruitment.
GATE 2027 is a computer-based test (CBT) of 3 hours, with a total of 100 marks across 65 questions. Every paper has 3 sections: General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and the subject-specific section, with questions in MCQ, MSQ and NAT formats.
| Section | Weightage | Question Type |
|---|---|---|
| General Aptitude | 15 marks | MCQ |
| Engineering Mathematics | 13 marks (approx.) | MCQ, MSQ, NAT |
| Subject-Specific Section | 72 marks (approx.) | MCQ, MSQ, NAT |
Negative marking applies only to MCQs: 1/3 mark for every wrong 1-mark MCQ and 2/3 mark for every wrong 2-mark MCQ. There is no negative marking for MSQ or NAT questions.
